Andalucia - the "real" Spain
The region, which has the village of Gaucin and Casa Mirador Andalucia holiday villa, is probably the most loved and culturally diverse region of Spain. It offers much more than the well known Costa de Sol coast region as, beyond that, lies the real Spain with its dramatic scenery, mountains and valleys The wonderful range of wild flowers which cover the countryside and border the roadside are truly amazing, as are the variety of birds, including eagles and vultures, particularly during the migratory season.
Casa Mirador, Andalucia holiday villa in Gaucin, is a good base from which to explore and visit the whole region and the Costa del Sol and this beautiful part of Andalucia, with its picturesque villages clinging to the mountainside or nestling in the valleys of the Serrania de Ronda. Here there are national parks and reserves, including vast cork and evergreen oak forests.
Of particular interest, within 30 minutes drive through the hills, is the town of Ronda, with its famous gorge and stunning views, Spain’s oldest bullring, a bullfighting museum and typical Spanish shops and tapas bars.
As an alternative to driving, there is the picturesque single track railway which winds its way through the river valley from Algeciras to Ronda, and beyond to Granada. This can be picked up at Estacion Gaucin, which, confusingly, is in the valley at El Colmenor and offers a fascinating alternative journey to Ronda.
In addition, the coastal resorts of the Costa del Sol are within easy driving distance of the Casa Mirador holiday villa in Andalucia, including Estepona, and Marbella, with its old town, and the marinas, bars and restaurants of La Duquesa, Sotogrande and Estepona Puerto, as well as Puerto Banus. There are also numerous markets in the area, all offering a diverse range of food, clothing, antiques and many other items.
Several well known golf courses are within 30-40 minutes drive, including Sotogrande, Valderrama, San Roque, Almenara and La Duquesa, as well as numerous courses along and off the coastal road. There are excellent sandy beaches, relatively close, at Sabinillas, Estepona and San Pedro, all with promenades and excellent bars and restaurants.
Also easily accessible from Casa Mirador holiday villa in Andalucia is Gibraltar and its Rock, which dominates this part of the coast, and further along the coast, is the walled town of Tarifa, famous as a windsurfing location, with the sands, beaches and towns of the Costa de la Luz, on the Atlantic coast. From Tarifa Port, a short boat trip takes the visitor to Morocco and Tangier in particular. Slightly further afield, but still within a day’s drive, are Jerez, Cadiz, Seville, Cordoba and, in the other direction, Granada, all of which are well worth visiting.
